What is a temporary prosthesis?
There are many different types of dentures and it is sometimes difficult to make sense of them. The main purpose of a temporary prosthesis is to keep your smile intact after an implant placement or extraction. It will preserve your teeth until the final installation. It allows you to recover between treatments. It is not only an aesthetic solution, it must be comfortable and avoid pressure from chewing. In particular on the treated area and on the remaining natural teeth.
When are temporary dentures fitted?
It will depend on the impact of the loss of your natural teeth. But also your expectations and medical needs. At Dentaphil, You always have a say, you decide. Usually it takes several months after an operation for the gums to heal or for the implant to set properly.
The temporary prosthesis will then be your main ally in the treatment, protecting the sensitive area. However, you should avoid hard foods, cigarettes and alcohol. Your dentist will advise you in any case.
What is the prosthesis made of?
Dentures date back to ancient times, when they were reworked cow’s teeth. Fortunately we have evolved since then. Metal was used for a long time, cheap but not very aesthetic. Ceramic then replaced it, with better compatibility but at a higher price. Resin followed, ideal for a provisional prosthesis, sometimes combined with ceramic on certain definitive solutions.
At Dentaphil what material do you use?
We use acrylic polymer resin (PMMA). This material has many advantages, it is light yet strong (long life), it is clear, UV and chemical resistant, it transmits light (even if you don’t put a disco ball in your mouth). It will not discolour, and it can be handled easily without the risk of breaking.
Sa structure est lisse, donnant une sensation naturelle dans la bouche, très important pour le confort dentaire. Dernière chose, c’est une matière recyclable, contribuant ainsi au développement durable.
We have our own laboratory and we have all prostheses made to measure, i.e. we will try them out and adapt them to guarantee you optimum comfort.
