Filling

A composite resin is a plastic mixture of the color of the tooth, filled with glass (silicon dioxide). Composite fillings are ideal for replacing old amalgam fillings. They can also be used to fill the spaces between the incisors, or to repair the molars.
How are composites placed?
After preparation, the composite is placed in layers, then a special light is used to harden each of the layers. When this process is complete, the Dentist gives the composite the shape of the tooth.
What are the advantages of composites?
The main advantage is aesthetic, since Dentists mix shades of colors, in order to recreate the color of other teeth almost identically. The composite adheres to the tooth and supports the remaining dental structure. It also helps prevent the tooth from breaking, and promotes its thermal insulation.
What are the disadvantages?
After placement of a composite, the patient may experience minor postoperative discomfort. If this happens, this oversensitivity disappears after a few weeks.
How long does a composite last?
Studies have shown that a composite can last 7-10 years.
