When you do not have enough bone for an implant. The bone supplement technique can be the right solution. It secures your bone structure and guarantees the longevity of an implant. We often encounter this problem at our dental practice in Budapest, Hungary. Therefore, we would like to explain this procedure in detail.

Why do you need a bone supplement?

When you want an implant, our dentist will analyse your x-rays to see if you have enough bone. We are all unequal, because with the wear of time and depending on your jaw, your bone mass may be insufficient to allow the placement of a prosthetic implant. Moreover, this happens regularly when you have been missing a tooth for a long time, the pressure is no longer there and the bone dissolves as it no longer « works ».

Previous dental work may also have weakened your bone mass (especially extractions), or there is simply not enough room. This can be a lack of thickness or height. In these cases, you need a bone filling to ensure the viability of an implant, otherwise it would be impossible to place.

CHow is the operation carried out in the dental practice of Dentaphil in Hungary ?

There are several types of bone filling operations, depending on the condition of your jaw. We practice them in the rules of art, our dental surgeon will advise you. The techniques of bone grafting as well as the materials used are in constant evolution.

  • Sinus Lift (or sinus graft)

It is an operation under local anaesthetic which is performed on the upper part. It consists of preparing the jawbone for the reception of implants. This is a relatively common operation, as it is a recurrent clinical case. As the bone space narrows and shrinks, the thickness and/or height of the bone must be significantly increased.
The dental surgeon will incise the gum and then lift the sinus membrane. This will create a pocket that can receive the synthetic bone. Calcification can begin, and a new bone mass will develop.
If you often have sinusitis or a blocked nose, we ask you to consult an ENT specialist. Even though there are very few contraindications, we do not take any risks with your health.

  • Post-extraction bone filling

This is a very simple technique, we will fill the hole that will arise after a tooth extraction. To prepare for the regeneration of the bone and to fill the cavity that has formed following the extraction. This prepares the space left for an implant, but above all it prevents bacteria from settling in the space left by the extracted tooth.

  • Pre-implant bone grafting

As the name implies, this is an operation performed before implants are placed. It consists of strengthening the bone, to provide a stable and solid base for the implant. It is the ideal solution when you have a slight lack of bone volume.

What material is used in Hungary?

We can reassure you right away that it is not teeth taken from cadavers that are then ground into powder, as you may sometimes hear.
At the beginning of the 2000s, samples were taken from patients (autografts), or from donors (allografts). Then there were bones of animal origin (xenografts), from dedicated farms, because they were much cheaper than human bone.
However, a large proportion of patients preferred other types of grafts and synthetic materials arrived, known as alloplastic materials. Ceramic materials capable of stimulating bone growth or simply supporting osteo-conduction.
In short, it is a biomaterial, or a bone graft capable of generating a new bone structure. This means that synthetic bone is added during the operation. Because there is nothing better than bone to regenerate bone.

What happens after an operation of this type?

The healing process will be very important and you will have to be very careful for about ten days. Your cheek may swell for a few days and you may have some bleeding. But the most important thing is to avoid sport, heat, cold, and especially not to blow your nose. Rest until it has healed optimally.
On the other hand, it is important to bear in mind that one does not immediately ask for implants where you had the operation, as it takes several months for your bone to solidify and become strong enough. The jaw will also « work » and it will reset itself over time.
